Abstract

This research used daily precipitation data from 22 synoptic stations from the time of their establishment until 2024 and the Ordinary Kriging model with the aim of spatially analyzing extreme precipitation in Isfahan province. To study temporal changes, daily precipitation data from selected stations in Kashan in the north of the province and Isfahan in the center of the province from 1972-2024 were used to compare three time periods, and from Khor & Biabanak in the east of the province, Golpayegan in the west of the province, and Shahreza in the south of the province from 1992-2024 were used to compare two time periods by applying the generalized extreme value distribution model. The model is fitted for four annual precipitation indices: annual extreme precipitation, ratio of extreme precipitation to annual precipitation, and ratio of extreme days to annual rainy days. The results showed that in Isfahan province, about 43 to 53 percent of the annual precipitation falls as extreme precipitation on 10 to 11 percent of the rainy days of the year. Annual precipitation is decreasing throughout the province, with the greatest decrease in the east and the least in the north of the province. The ratio of extreme precipitation to annual precipitation has decreased slightly in the west and south of the province, but there has been a significant decrease in the east of the province. In the north of the province, the ratio of extreme precipitation to annual precipitation has increased in the third period.
